The hotel industry is a key activity for the Spanish economy. With the aim to understanding its competitive dynamism and attractiveness, technological and market criteria are first considered, thereby allowing the industry to be demarcated. Second, different structural features are discussed in order to assess the main threats and opportunities facing firms in the industry. Finally, and due to the heterogeneity of this industry, the different strategic positions of hotel companies are considered with a view to analysing the different strategic groups.
